Certainly enough, Asia is known for its abundance in precious stones. We often remember some memorable eras in history which document the richness of the continent when it comes to the sparkling jewels used ornamentally by ancients. If we would take a look at the Asian jewelry history, we would know that the Asians are one of those who have used jewelries for different reasons.
There are numerous tribes in ancient times which use bangles, earrings, nose rings or anklets as a form of tradition. We are all familiar of different Asians who often use ornaments such as bones or shells, which are both considered as the oldest form of jewelry ever utilized not only by Asians, but also by ancient groups of people around the world.
The Egyptians, on the other hand, richly cultivated the use of gold as jewelry. Since these people are one of those who gave rise to the birth of civilization, they know how to use their tools in order to fashion gold into different bracelets or necklaces. Moreover, as Egyptians often used gold as an ornament, the possession of jewelries was soon connected to the idea of affluence and power.
The ancient Mesopotamians used jewelries not only to adorn themselves, but also the statues of their gods. Stones such as agate or lapis lazuli are staple materials in the creation of their jewelries which are fashioned into shapes of leaves or spirals.
The Indians should also be praised for their craftsmanship when it comes to jewelry making. They did not only concentrate on gold or any other precious metals. Some of the Indian women in ancient times even sported necklaces made of clay. As the Indians learned to use more tools, clay was eventually replaced by the more expensive and fashionable glass.
Upon looking into Asian jewelry history, we will be able to know that Asians do not only use these precious items for ornamental purposes. Some even use these objects to ward off demons and other devils, or utilize these objects as something which is equivalent to money.
